“There’s something happening here, what it is ……” – Stephen Stills
Happy New Year, a couple of days removed! I hope that everyone enjoyed ringing in 2025, and that you are not still paying for that ringing. If you are, take another sip of water (ha ha), or maybe go see a doctor (seriously).
This time of year always prompts people to make a slew of resolutions, but I’ve learned not to put a lot of stock in them, as I don’t really tend to keep the ones I do make. But if I’m not going to make a resolution, is there even value in bothering with the process at all?
I say yes. There is value in assessing where I’m at and pondering about where I could be. To make plans for “what if”, “likely” and “actual” scenarios. Not to solidify a goal, but to focus instead on what is actually needed to get there. This allows for remaining flexible on the specific outcome.
Like take this site, I have no idea where this project takes me, what journey I travel as a result, but when pondering what it could be, and perhaps what I’d like it to be, I know I can’t, don’t want to really, make claims about what may/may not end up happening.
To clarify that statement, 2024 started with the best of intentions (like that road to hell, haha), but I can honestly claim that last year just passed by, with minimal progress made versus what could have been. But that’s on me.
I don’t want 2025 to be that way, and since I am still introducing myself, at least who I am as a songwriter in a public space, you (reader) and I are still getting acquainted. So I will publicly offer a brief preview of what could come over the next 12 months.
For me personally, I still haven’t produced the album of music that started this journey, but in 2025 I hope to release original music on streaming platforms, and definitely pursue recurring headlining gigs.
Additionally, I’m looking to build connections and community with folks, and hopefully inspire people to always pursue their passions, something I’ve learned to do, but it seems to me is rarely encouraged.
Why am I choosing to pursue this? What is my “goal”? Well as I’ve said, I don’t really declare specific outcomes, I more develop a process that I can commit to, and we’ll see what happens. I believe that telling what has worked for me has value because it might just work for others.
I believe that that my journey and experience are of a certain flavor, creating a character and personality that’s been described multiple ways. Spicy, sweet, salty, etc., doesn’t really matter to me.
Because call it what you will, spices are meant to be let out of the bottle and stirred into the mix, to add flavor and enhancement to the dish. That’s the only way it makes an impact, by getting out of the bottle.
So that’s what this is – getting out of the bottle. That’s what I hope to bring during the next year, and I can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store for us all!!!
Take care,
Bobby
